Gordon Manning has been associated with community radio for nearly thirty years. He started as a founding member of 2WKT Bowral (107.1) in 1977, when he was a resident of the Southern Highlands, taking part in test broadcasting on that station for six years during its infant period.
Gordon moved to the Macarthur region in 1987 and joined Macarthur Community Radio in 1991 when it too, was an aspirant broadcaster. Whilst I have been involved in various capacities of general broadcasting, including a period on 2MCR's management committee.
He has always specialised in the presentation of classical music, a field he immensely enjoys spending a great deal of time researching and preparing scripts on the various composers and their music for presentation on Sunday mornings.
Composers Gallery evolved from an earlier classical music programme entitled A Little Night Music, a name associated with the early test broadcasts conducted by Macarthur Community Radio back in the 1990's. Composers Gallery has now reached a milestone in Macarthur Community Radio's history with over 500 editions of this programme being broadcast over the last 15 years. The 500th will air on Sunday 20th August 2006.
Gordon said ahead of his 500th program, “I'm thankful for the opportunity to present such a diverse programme of music each and every Sunday morning as I have been doing over the past years, and, if the good Lord spares me, may I continue to research, script, and present another 500 programmes of the same. Though I have not had that many listeners, (classical music is not to everyone's taste), I do appreciate the response and the listening dedication of those who have supported this programme and this station. Good listening and fine music is my advice to you all”.
