On-Air Work

Community Radio is limitless and is designed to break the boundaries of traditional broadcasting. You have the freedom to create you own style of program different from all the rest.

Prior to presenting your own program, comprehensive training courses are provided in operating the equipment and some basic presentation skills.

There are few restrictions on the format and content of the any of our programs, as long as it follows some basic guidelines that are provided during your training to ensure all our programming complies with the Community Broadcasting Codes of Practice and other legal obligations.

Our programming in reviewed each year and there are often casual vacancies during the year that are available for new programs. As airtime is limited, 2MCR has a programming policy to give preference to programs that present local content and then those presented by local residents.

In addition to having a regular timeslot you can also be listed as a relief announcer to fill in presenters to cover presenter holidays and other unforeseen circumstances.

A number of programs currently on the station also welcome new members to be a part of their shows. Some examples include:

The most important aspect with any on-air roles is commitment. Our listeners have high expectations and deserve to hear the best in local programming. In addition to the time you are on air you will need to spend just as much time if not more getting prepared for your shift. For example, you may need to arrange guests for interviews, research your segments or obtaining the latest music for your program.

2MCR does not reimburse presenters for expenses incurred with producing their programs but does provide some basic facilities including a production studio and a computer network with Internet access available for program preparation. On-air facilities include a computerised music library, state of the art studios and an incoming phone line to accept calls from guests who are able to come to our studios.

Off-Air Work

In addition to our main on air activities there are a number of support roles within 2MCR. These may be less noticed to the listener but are vital to ensure the station remains on air.

Some examples of the behind the scenes roles in the following areas:
  • Administration
  • Information Technology
  • Management
  • Music Library Maintanance
  • Office Staff
  • Sponsorship Sales
  • Technical
  • Training
  • Web design and maintenance

For some roles pervious experience and skills in the area will be an advantage. However, if you have enough interest and commitment you will be of valuable assistance to current members and in return you will learn a range of new skills.

While membership is not compulsory to volunteer off air it is recommended so that you will receive updates and notices of upcoming meetings.
